Susan Florio-Ruane is a professor of teacher education at MSU. Her research interests include the social organization of classrooms, the analysis of text-related discourse, the teaching of writing, the process of learning to teach literacy, and the role of autobiographical literature in educating teachers to work in culturally diverse settings. Her publications include works on qualitative research in education, the anthropological study of classrooms and schools, analysis of classroom discourse, collaboration between teachers and researchers, and teacher education. Susan Florio-Ruane will collaborate with Taffy Raphael on the teacher development project and will serve as one of the research methodology experts for CIERA. Their study is entitled "Professional development as a tool for re-engaging low-achieving readers" in Program V. (Study V.2.2.) .
